Come to the Fairies' Ball - Jane Yolen, Gary Lippincott
Grabbed this one at the library yesterday because I liked the cover and it's by the venerable Jane Yolen. Truth be told, she can be a bit hit or miss - what do you expect from someone so prolific? But this one was definitely a hit! Told in rhyming verse this is the story of an upcoming Faerie Ball with a teeny bit of a Cinderella twist (minus evil step-siblings). The whole thing is hugely enhanced by the illustrations by Gary Lippincott. They reminded me quite a bit of Tony DiTerlizzi's in the The Spiderwick Chronicles.

School Library Journal says: While the story line may not be entirely fresh, the illustrations are outstanding. I agree, but would also add that this is sure to thrill any fairy loving child!

For more lovely fairy artwork, I recommend the following:

*Fairy Wings - not the best story, but the art is scrumptious!
*And of course, fairy lovers must always be acquainted Cecily Mary Barker's The Flower Fairies.
