Bummer! Graceling and Fire (the first and second installments in the trilogy) were among my favorite reads of last year. With each installment of the trilogy I was skeptical. I thought Graceling couldn't live up to the hype. I thought Fire was going to be predictable and repetitive. With both of those I was, thankfully, very wrong, but Bitterblue totally met my low expectations. I thought Bitterblue as a character wasn't strong enough to carry her own novel. The high points of this book are when you get to catch up with the characters from the previous two installments, but sadly there isn't enough of that. The premise of a severely wounded society trying to rebuild itself isn't a bad one, but it didn't play out in a way that felt true to me. Disappointing.
