Review
I've been impatiently waiting to get my hands on this picture book for over two years. I really didn't know much about it, but what I did know was good. First, it's authored and illustrated by the incomparable Mercer Mayer. Second, it features a smart, strong female protagonist. What I didn't know is that it was delightful blend of various folk and fairy tales. The result is a completely fresh and charming little story about a very clever little girl. I find that Mayer's characters can be a little overly cutesy/stylized. Liza is the exception. She is totally adorable, but also very real looking to me. Highly recommended!
