Pompeii: Lost and Found - Mary Pope Osborne, Bonnie Christensen

This is a good child-friendly survey on the topic of Pompeii - what happened there, when and how it was discovered and what it all means to us today. Osborne discusses the important archaeological finds and what they tell us about life in this town. I particularly like that the illustrations are done in a 'fresco-like' style. It makes this book very evocative of time and place - something I love to encounter in a picture book, especially one so grounded in history!
