Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card
Such a hard book to review. I'm not sure I'm up to the task! This is such a beloved (and also somewhat loathed) book. It was really hard going into a novel with such a strong personal dislike of its author. For those not in the know - Card's a raging homophobe. It's hard to know that while reading a novel about a mostly male military school and not see homoeroticism in every nook and cranny. So, that was distracting! That aside, this is a fairly engrossing story with an interesting lead character. But I suppose, in the end, it just wasn't enough for me to get over the author's boorishness. I wasn't fond of his writing style and definitely bristle at some of the messages implicit in this story.
