Emily Gravett puzzles me a little bit. She's this award winning illustrator with loads of obvious talent, but when I read her books I feel like I'm missing something. Like her other recent book, the Kate Greenaway winning [b:Mouse's Big Book of Fears|899589|Little Mouse's Big Book of Fears|Emily Gravett|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51tYa%2Bs-jEL._SL75_.jpg|2353192], I'm having a hard time pinning down the target audience for this one. The story includes some humor and clever play on words that, while fun, are likely too sophisticated for very young readers. But then I can't imagine that the (almost non-existent) story will be satisfying for older children. But having said all that I still find myself really captivated by Gravett's work - the skill and innovation that goes into it with such visually appealing results.
