Phonics: 12 book reading program : Hello Kitty - Quinlan B. Lee
Early readers are remarkably difficult for me to rate. Can I say that I really *like* these books? Um, no - not unless I was lobotomized somewhere along the way. That said early readers do have some value for emergent readers. They build confidence with their ease and repetition and what's better, if you're lucky, it's a short lived phase as most kids will quickly build the skills to move on to bigger and better things.

Here's what I like about this particular series:

**There are 12 short individual books which feature a popular recognizable character in relatable situations.

**Each story focuses on different letter sounds - short and long vowels as well as the -sh and -ch sounds.

**The set comes with an audio cd which reads each story aloud, pausing for page turns. Certainly this is no replacement for reading aloud with your child (something I think is invaluable), but it's a great way for a child to get that repetition they need with out driving mom and dad completely batty!
