We've had a lot of fun with the 'You Wouldn't Want To' series so it's fun to find another similar-ish series. This is not as irreverent as 'You Wouldn't Want To', but it's packed FULL of information - presented in an engaging format. (Both series suffer in terms of aesthetic appeal in my humble opinion.) In 'You Wouldn't Want To' the reader is asked to imagine they are literally IN the specific situation featured (being mummified, living in a Medieval castle, traveling with Marco Polo, etc.) It's very effective in getting kids engaged. This series, on the other hand, uses a question/answer format. Example: What Would You Eat? How Would You Dress? Etc. This is actually pretty effective too in that it encourages conversation as you read.
This book pairs nicely with books like Aliki's A Medieval Feast and Castle Diary: The Journal of Tobias Burgess.
