Ben's Christmas Carol - Toby Forward, Ruth Brown

A very nice 'mousey' twist on A Christmas Carol. Of course the theme and structure are similar, but thankfully it's not the same story retold with mouse characters. The real standout here are the illustrations by Ruth Brown. Not only are they simply lovely, but they very cleverly incorporate the original story into this one. Definitely recommended for older children who are familiar with the original Dickens story - mostly because they will enjoy noticing the references, but also because, like that story, this one has some rather bleak moments.
