Review

I can't really say that that I *like* the story of Abraham and Isaac, but of the three versions I read this is by far the most palatable. Rather than a straight retelling, this is the story of the ram who is sacrificed after God spares Isaac. Gerstein explains in his author's note that this version is based on Jewish legends called Midrashim - which are stories about the Old Testament. This picture book does a great job explaining the religious and cultural significance of this story to Christian, Muslims and particularly Jews. The illustrations are very nice and help make this about as kid-friendly as this story possibly can be.
**Note: This story does seem to assume familiarity with the original version.
