Marushka's Egg - Elsa Okon Rael
I'm not really into Easter stories, but this is definitely one I can get behind. Little Marushka is sent to the market to find the perfect painted egg for Easter, but instead finds herself tricked and sucked into one of the eggs by the evil Baba Yaga. As is often the case with Baba Yaga stories Marushka is forced to become the witch's slave - cooking and cleaning the chicken-footed hut until she can find a way to escape. Baba Yaga says she will answer any question, but Marushka will age one year for every answer she gets.

I'm pretty much in love with any story that features Baba Yaga because she's the most awesome fairy tale witch/villain of all time. Not only does she live in a chicken-footed hut surrounded by the skulls of previously eaten victims, but she also flies around in a mortar and pestle.

The illustrations featured here aren't my very favorite style. They're a bit 'modern arty' for me.
I prefer Ivan Bilibin's Baba Yaga
