I think this is a good book in and of itself - the story is nice, the illustrations are wonderful, but it also is such a great springboard for so many other things. It is a great way to talk to children about the concept of 'sacrifice' and also how legends tell us a great deal about the people who told them - what they feared, what they valued, etc. All in all, a good story and conversation starter. I do wish I knew a little more about the origins of the story - how much is truly Comanche, etc.
