Running Out of Time (An ALA Best Book for Young Adults) - Margaret Peterson Haddix

April 2013 Mother-Daughter book club selection.

As soon as she heard the plot description my daughter was super excited about this one and it turns out she pretty much loved it from start to finish. I think her only complaint is that she wanted more. As soon as she finished she asked if there is a sequel - there isn't as far as I know. Truth be told, most of the girls in the group really loved this one. The plot is unique and fast-paced and we had a great discussion.

I think most of the moms were slightly less enthused. I think we all agree that it was fast paced and engaging, but we couldn't really shut off that adult part of our brain that craves more depth of character and plot. But, as with many of the selections we've read with this club, the girls' enthusiasm is always infectious. It's hard to be too critical of a book that wins over the hearts and minds of young readers and gets them really thinking and talking about literature.

I'm excited to explore some of this author's other work for my daughter to read!
