I was drawn to this first by my friend Abigail's reviews and then again when amightygirl.com listed it as one of their favorite graphic novels featuring a strong female character.
My daughter loves graphic novels *and* spooky stuff so it seemed like a match made in Heaven. Well, she hasn't actually read it yet because I snagged it as soon as it arrived. Not surprisingly, I absolutely loved it. I thought it was funny, clever and, yes, spooky - particularly the chapter involving a sinister doppelganger. 'Mirror Image' was the Twilight Zone episode that always spooked me the most!
The content is a little more 'grown-up' than I expected, but not so much that I'm worried about the kid reading it. The illustrations are perfect! I am always truly in awe of really elaborate graphic novel illustrations - the time, the patience, the skill, etc. it must take is almost mind boggling! The spread featuring the Goblin Marketplace is especially delightful. I already have the sequel on hand ready to read ASAP!
*On a personal note - it's so nice to see a young female protagonist with short hair!
