Winnie-the-Pooh - Ernest H. Shepard, A.A. Milne

We started this collection several years ago when my daughter was five and, although we enjoyed the stories, I think she was a bit young for the sly humor so we put it down for a bit. We picked it up again this past week (she just turned 9) and found it very enjoyable indeed. The stories are very quaint and childish, but I think a slightly older child (who enjoys old fashioned things) will like 'being in the know' with these stories. We both fell very much in love with the Bear of Very Little Brain and all his delightful friends. I like that the characters aren't above childish foibles and insecurities. I got a particular kick out of the plan to kidnap Roo. And, of course, I absolutely love the illustrations! I don't think I'll ever forget the one of Pooh sitting on his branch waiting out the rain with his dwindling supply of honey pots. We are continuing on with The House at Pooh Corner.
