

A pleasant surprise on many levels! Although Cashore's first book Graceling totally snuck up on me - I still didn't expect to like this one much at all. It's not quite a sequel, not quite a prequel and I didn't really know what to make of that. After the first chapter I was absolutely certain I was going to hate it. About half way through (while grudgingly enjoying myself more than cared to admit) I was sure I had it all figured out. And I was dead wrong. Cashore has created another (entirely distinct) complex kick-a female character. She has created another riveting narrative set in yet another fascinating world. Now, I suppose I'll have to read Bitterblue...
