A very enjoyable read aloud - one that will keep a child entertained (although I'd recommend it for the over 7 set due to the advanced vocabulary), but this is one that will also satisfy the adult/parent reader. I found Mary Norton's writing very enjoyable to read aloud and the story is quite deep and wistful at times. I don't think my daughter picked up on a lot (or any?) of the thematic elemements, but she did love the action and adventure and the descriptions (and illustrations) of the Borrowers and their tiny world.
