Review

Mirette's mother madame Gateau owns a boarding house in Paris. The boarding house is a haven for performers of all sort and so Mirette encounters many colorful characters on a daily basis. The guest who really grabs her attention is Monsieur Bellini - a famous, but now retired high-rope walker. Mirette is intrigued by his sad face and reclusive ways, but mostly by his amazing talent. Soon they become friends and Mirette becomes his protege. Bellini teaches her about courage and perseverance. Overall, it's a nice story. I just can't say I was as affected by the combination of story and illustrations as I might have hoped.
