Review

I have this friend who is an uncanny gift giver. (Hi Meghan!) She knew within a year of our acquaintance that I would treasure the gift of an old beloved book above just about anything else in the world. There are people who have known me, literally, my entire life who don't know this about me. (Hi Mom!*) Not only that, but she picks the perfect books. First, it was the illustrated Little Women and Wuthering Heights - both for my birthday. (I love them both so much I eventually tracked down the matching editions of Little Men and Jane Eyre) And recently she's just started picking me up little 'sussies' (that's what we call little unexpected presents around these parts) and this was one of them. She knows I love fairy tales and Maurice Sendak, but I don't think she knew (consciously) that this was one of my favorite stories of all time and that I've been coveting this very edition for years! *Sigh* That's a real friend. She's also one of the only people I know who would list Anne of Green Gables and The Hangover as her two favorite films.
Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, 'What! You too? I thought I was the only one.'
-C.S. Lewis
Well, now I've rambled on and on and not said anything about the actual book. It's fantastic! It's funny, it's touching, it's smart! It is the story of the 'light' princess - she lacks gravity (both literally and metaphorically). It's a beautiful story about achieving balance in life. Love it!
*A little joke - my mom barely knows how to use a computer ;-)
