Review

Cute illustrations, nice premise, but doesn't quite live up to expectations. This book book's main failing is a major lack of continuity. The set up is that a boy loses his kite on the beach and running after it encounters one seal. And then one by one animals start appearing to form a giant pyramid whose goal is to retrieve said kite. Sounds really cute right? Problem is that sometimes the story is wordless, sometimes it is not and when text is introduced it's jarring and out of place. Also, in what is clearly a cumulative scenario, sometimes we see the next animal in the background, but sometimes we don't. Finally, along the way a giant egg joins and observant children will notice that over the course of the book it starts to crack, but we never get to see what hatches! Really disappointing for a book that could have been really great!
