Review

Fabulous illustrations, interesting premise, but I wish it had been about half as long. Nib is an archetypal street urchin. He cannot read or write, but he loves to draw. He is (through a contrived plot twist) given a magic paintbrush which will allow his creations to come to life. You can probably guess that this power might not be so good in the wrong hands. The text just didn't really hold my interest, but the illustrations definitely did. This proves that a) it isn't as easy as many assume to actually write children's stories and b)very few illustrators also happen to be great storytellers. But, I would very much like to see this illustrator paired with other work.
