Review

Adorable little book - and when I say little I mean little! The copy I ordered from half.com is about 4x5 inches and the drawings on each page are itty bitty.
Trina Schart Hyman (despite her very unfortunate name) is one of my very favorite illustrators so when I saw that she had an alphabet book I had to get it.
Each letter includes a miniature drawing of a child doing activities and surrounded by items that start with the letter. The actual letter is incorporated in the drawing with the whole effect resembling illuminated text.
Like all of Hyman's illustrations each miniature drawing is amazingly detailed. Some of the items are unbelievably tiny. I think this book currently out of print, but I got it from half.com. I don't really get how a little gem like this goes out of pring, but it is definitely worth seeking out second hand if you are a fan of great children's book art.
*Note - the cover doesn't even begin to do this book justice!
