The Midwife's Apprentice - Karen Cushman

I liked a lot about this book.  The historical details are really fabulous.  This is a rare piece of youth historical fiction that doesn’t feel at all anachronistic.  The protagonist’s journey feels very authentic.  She starts in the dung heap and, while she does come up a bit in the world, her rise isn’t meteoric by any stretch.   I only wish it was a bit longer – a definite mark of a well written and engaging book.
